Scientific workshop "Civil procedure law in the Fourth Industrial Revolution"

On the morning of April 8, 2023, The VNU University of Law collaborated with Saigon International University (SIU) to organize a scientific workshop "Civil procedure law in the fourth industrial revolution".

  
 

The workshop had the participation of Dr. Pham Quy Ty - Former Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Justice, Former National Assembly deputy of the X, XI, and XII course, Former Vice Chairman of the Judicial Committee of the National Assembly, and Former Chief Justice of the Hanoi People's Court), and now the Rector of Saigon International University; Prof. Dr. Phan Trung Ly - Former National Assembly deputy, Former Chairman of the Judicial Committee of National Assembly); Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Tat Vien - Former Standing Member of the Central Steering Committee for Judicial Reforms.

 

On the side of the University of Law, there was the participation of Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Thi Que Anh - Rector; Dr. Nguyen Bich Thao - Dean of the Faculty of Civil Law; Dr. Tran Thu Han - Head of the Department of Education and Student Affairs; Dr. Mai Van Thang - Head of the Department of Research Management and Partnership Cooperation; Dr. Ngo Thanh Huong - Deputy Head of the Department of Personnel Organization, Inspection, and Legal Affairs.

 

Speaking at the opening of the Workshop, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Thi Que Anh affirmed the liberal and pioneering academic tradition of the VNU University of Law. "This workshop continues to study new topics and directions to advise the Party and State in perfecting the legal system in the new context" she added. On behalf of the University of Law, she expressed her gratitude for the thoughtful and dedicated preparation of Saigon International University in organizing the Workshop. Besides, she gave sincere thanks to Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Tat Vien for his dedication, affection, and help to make the Workshop organized as it is today.

"Only in the last 5 years, under the profound and strong influence of the fourth industrial revolution, Vietnam's legal system, including civil procedure law, has made rapid development steps to quickly adapt to the changes of the times. This new development is not only reflected in the practice of policymaking and perfecting civil procedure law but also in the practice of civil procedure in Vietnam, such as the implementation of filing lawsuits, handing over documents and evidence online; piloting e-court, online mediation; applying virtual assistants in court hearings; ... Therefore, we organize this workshop with the desire to create an open academic forum for scholars and practical experts to meet, discuss, evaluate the current state of the law in Vietnam, and point out the difficulties and inadequacies when applying new technology to the practice of civil proceedings, thereby making recommendations to Vietnamese legal system." said Dr. Nguyen Bich Thao.

 

 

The workshop was divided into two sessions to discuss different contents about the impacts of the Fourth Industrial Revolution on the civil justice system, legal proceedings, lawsuits, archiving electronic evidence, online mediation, the enforcement of civil judgments, and issues raised when implementing e-court in practice, …

The workshop had the participation of a large number of experts and scholars from all over the country, in which, there were approximately 200 experts attended in person and 100 experts attended online via the Zoom platform.

The workshop was successfully held and the results will be further discussed to make recommendations on improving Vietnam's civil procedure law in the near future.
